Bois de Géréchamp – Géréchamp Forest
An exploration of the Géréchamp Forest takes a considerable amount of time depending on the route. One should definitely plan half a day for a thorough tour. It is most sensible to start from the area of a hunting lodge directly north of the Etang de la Grande Croix, where parking is available. From there, one follows the edge of the forest in a northerly direction and immediately encounters extensive position remains as well as smaller concrete structures in the area of the forward German trench.

Since the area of the Géréchamp Forest still has a very high groundwater table today due to the nearby ponds and streams, one should, if possible, wait for an extended dry period for an excursion. As the following photos, taken in the summer after several weeks of heat and drought, show, it is otherwise not unusual for the positions and bunkers in the forest area to be under water.
